Get what you put into these classes. If you want a simple open and go curriculum then you have it. If you want tests, activities, experiments, reading, math application, writing opportunities, and additional resources then you have access to those as well! Choose what you want to do and what works best for your family.

Introduction to Living Things:

• Exploring the characteristics of living things.
• Learning about basic needs of plants and animals.
• Activities: Observing and comparing living and non-living things, growing plants in the home.

 

Plant Life:

• Studying the parts of a plant and their functions.
• Learning about the life cycle of a plant.
• Activities: Planting seeds and observing germination, creating a plant life cycle diagram.

 

Animal Diversity:

• Learning about different types of animals (e.g., mammals, birds, insects).
• Exploring animal habitats and adaptations.
• Activities: Creating animal habitats in the classroom, observing and sketching local wildlife.

 

Human Body:

• Understanding basic human body systems (e.g., skeletal, muscular, digestive).
• Learning about healthy habits and personal hygiene.
• Activities: Building models of body systems, discussing the importance of nutrition and exercise.

 

Life Cycles:

• Studying the life cycles of common animals (e.g., butterflies, frogs, chickens).
• Understanding the stages of growth and development.
• Activities: Observing and recording changes over time.

 

Ecosystem Exploration:

• Learning about local ecosystems (e.g., forests, ponds, gardens).
• Understanding the interdependence of living organisms within an ecosystem.
• Activities: Exploring local outdoor environments, observing and identifying plants and animals.

 

Habitat Conservation:

• Understanding the importance of protecting habitats and biodiversity.
• Learning about endangered animals and conservation efforts.
• Activities: Researching endangered species, participating in a classroom conservation project.

 

Microscopic World:

• Exploring microorganisms and their role in nature and everyday life.
• Understanding basic concepts of hygiene and disease prevention.
• Activities: Observing microorganisms under microscopes, discussing the importance of handwashing.

 

Animal Behavior:

• Exploring animal behavior and communication.
• Learning about animal senses and adaptations.
• Activities: Observing animal behavior in nature, role-playing animal communication scenarios.

 

Nature Journals and Outdoor Exploration:

• Keeping nature journals to record observations and reflections.
• Conducting outdoor exploration and nature walks.
• Activities: Sketching plants and animals, identifying and categorizing natural objects, writing observations and poems about nature.

Classes will begin August 27, 2024 - November 21, 2024 (1st Semester) January 7, 2025 - April 24, 2025 (Second Semester) 

 

CLASS SIZES ARE LIMITED TO 10 STUDENTS PER LIVE CLASS. This allows the instructor to give tailored information to each student and give the class the size to be able to discuss and interact efficiently. 

 

Class will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11 am MST

Led by Kassidy Jones, Creator and Founder of Fields of Learning with years of experience in the science and agricultural industry along with a strong educational background. She is currently pursuing her PhD researching how children REALLY learn best and how to implement it into our innovative platform! 

A detailed list of recommended tools and materials will be provided upon enrollment, and our instructor will offer guidance on where to purchase these items. Majority of items will be household products that are easily accessible. If you do not want to purchase the other items, labs will be filmed and available for you to view. 

What is the difference between Live, self-paced and hybrid classes?

 

• The live classes give your student the opportunity to interact with other students their age from around the world! We will have about 60 classes together where we will learn, collaborate, and explore science topics. Self-paced classes are completely asynchronous. You will recieve the workbook, activities, and labs for you to do as your schedule permits. The hybrid option gives you the opportunity to work through it as you please, but also you can post lab results, communicate with other students from around the globe in our discussion forums, and get all of your grading/questions answered in real time by your instructor! You can also join the live classes once a semester for any class you would like! (Class schedules will be posted so you can decide which one you would like to attend.)

 

Is everything in the classes required for me to do?

 

• NO! Research shows that excellence is created through the inward passion of learning a topic. So classes are designed for students to be able to have a great foundation of exploration for each unit. They can watch additional videos, read books from our Ultimate Book List that pertain to that particular subject, or have kid friendly websites that they can explore for more information (with your supervision and permission of course). Tests, writing opportunities, additional labs and activities as well as related topics are also included and they can be used as much or as little as you and your student would like.
